The Bible is the God breathed and inspired word, progressively unveiling the story of a creator who is revealing Himself and redeeming unto Himself His creation. It is the standard by which we measure our values, faith and actions. (Psalm 119:89; Matthew 24:35; 2 Timothy 2:15; 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:19-21)
This God of the Bible is the one divinely perfect, true God who manifests Himself in His plurality. From the story of creation to the incarnation and the eminent return, we see God the Father, the Son, and the Spirit in action, complementary to each other in their roles of this story of redemption. (Genesis 1:26; Matthew 3:16-17; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Timothy 1:17; 1 John 5:7)
The Father in perfect harmony with the Son and Spirit spoke into existence all of creation. He is the omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, and unchangeable Creator of all things. (Deuteronomy 32:6; Psalms 103:13; Isaiah 63:16; Matthew 6:9; John 3:1, 5:19-23, 17:1-11; Acts 17:28; Romans 8:14-16; Ephesians 4:6)
The Son in perfect harmony with the Father and Spirit is the Word who was sent. The Word took on human nature, was miraculously conceived and born of the virgin Mary, and given the name of Jesus. His life, crucifixion and resurrection inaugurated a new era, a new way of relating to and communing with our Creator. This new covenant has finished the work of redemption. Jesus has ascended to the Father and is now making intercession on our behalf. (Isaiah 53:1-5; Matthew 1:21-23; John 1:1-3, 11:25-26; Ephesians 1:20-23; Philippians 2:1-11; 1 Timothy 2:5)
The Spirit in perfect harmony with the Father and the Son is co-creator. He is not a power to be used but a Person of the Trinity to be adorned. Sent by the Father through the Son to convict the world of sin, to lead us into all truth, and to empower and equip the saints, us, the followers of Jesus, to see His Kingdom come and will be done on Earth as it is in heaven. (Genesis 1:2; John 14:26, 15:26, 16:8; Acts 1:8)
God’s original intent and purposes for creation and mankind have been disrupted by the willful disobedience and sin of the first man and woman in the Garden of Eden. (Genesis 1:27, 3:1-6; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:10, 3:23, 5:12, 5:19)
Because of our inability to redeem ourselves from our sinful nature, redemption is through total dependence upon God’s grace. We receive it by faith as we turn away from our old lives and embrace the new through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus which completed the work of redemption. (John 3:3; 3:16-17; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 Peter 2:24)
As passionate pursuers of our Creator, we receive a measure of the Spirit when we become a believer. There is an added measure available to us, increasing our ability to be used by the Spirit to be a bold witness of the good news of the Kingdom and to encourage other believers and ourselves as we live new lives according to the Spirit. (John 7:37-39, 14:16, 15:4, 15:8; Acts 1:8, 2:4, 2:38-39, 4:31, 8:14-17, 10:44-46, 19:6; Romans 8:1, 8:5, 8:9, 12:1-2, 12:6-8; 1 Corinthians 3:16-17, 12:7-11, 12:31; 2 Corinthians 7:1; Galatians 5:16-25; Ephesians 4:11, 4:30-32, 5:18; 1 Thessalonians 5:22; 1 Peter 1:15, 4:10-11; 1 John 2:6)
Jesus promised He would return triumphantly and consummate the rule and reign of God on the Earth. Till then, as a community of Jesus followers awaiting His eminent return, we gather together regularly to encourage, serve and love one another, contribute to the needs of those around us and to the storehouse, and to grow in our knowledge and love for our Creator. We live missional lives because we are a people of compassion and join our Creator in His mission of redeeming all things.
